PROPOSALS FOR ABINGWORTH AND CHESSWOOD SITES

chesswood&abingworthThe planning applications for the Abingworth and Chesswood sites have now been submitted to Horsham District Council and can be viewed by clicking here.  Then insert Abingworth in the search box. By following through to the Abingworth application parishioners can directly submit their own views and opinions to Horsham District Council.

Thakeham Parish Council will be considering the detail of the applications and expect to respond to Horsham early in October.

The Parish Council will take full account of the views expressed by the community in particular concerns about the scale of the Abingworth development and the principle of linking the two applications in order to subsidise the modernisation of the Sussex Mushroom facility.

laybrook brickworksLAYBROOK LANDFILL PROPOSALS

The following statement has been released by West Sussex County Council

Work on the Minerals and Waste Core Strategy will be formally suspended - see paragraph 22 on the attached link http://www2.westsussex.gov.uk/ds/cttee/cc/cc230710i4b.pdf.

"As you will see from the brief report, it is considered necessary to 'pause for breath' given the uncertainties that have arisen following the revocation of the South East Plan, the proposed national review of waste policy, the designation of the South Downs National Park, and other factors such as the Decentralisation and Localism Bill.  A formal decision will be made by the Cabinet Member in the near future, after which we will write to consultees and others to inform them about the decision.  A new timetable for the Core Strategy will prepared later this year when the implications of the above issues are clearer"

This is regarded as good news but pressure will continue to be applied to ensure that Laybrook is removed from the list of potential sites considered suitable for waste management.

heritage logoJOINING UP OUR HERITAGE PROJECT

After the huge success of their first Tithe Map Digitisation and Preservation project, West Sussex Record Office have launched a new two year project. This is, thanks once again to the Heritage Lottery Fund, together with extra funding from West Sussex Archives Society.

The ‘Joining up our Heritage’ Project will focus on enabling small local archives and museums, particularly those that are volunteer and community-led, to make their records, objects and information more accessible to the public. This information will be added to the Tithe Maps database and eventually become available to look at in the Record Office and County Libraries, or on a Tithe Map CD.

If you have an interest in local history and would like to volunteer to be part of the project, or if you have archive material that you feel would be of value to our database collection, please contact the Record Office on 01243 753602 or email records.office@westsussex.gov.uk

Further information is available on the Heritage Project Web site

Alternatively register your interest with the Parish Clerk

“SMOOTH” LAUNCH FOR GREENING CAMPAIGN

The Greening Thakeham Campaign (GTC) got off to a good start at Village Day, not least with non-stop demand for the energy-saving Smoothie making bike.

Hopefully lots of you are now achieving five (or more!) of the eight Greening challenges and are displaying your Greening Thakeham cards in a visible window or door.  The cards will be counted during the week commencing 13th September, after which we can calculate the CO2 savings made by the community during the summer holidays.  So please make sure you display your cards by then.

Results will be published in the next newsletter and on the Parish website.  In the meantime, the GTC committee will be putting their heads together to consider options for Phase 2 of the campaign.  This will be a larger and longer term project in which all of the community can get involved.  If you have any ideas of your own for Phase 2 please let them know by emailing greeningthakeham@yahoo.co.uk.
