THAKEHAM VILLAGE HALL

The Village Hall is a charitable trust, run by a Management Committee, most of whom represent the Village Hall users.  Three “outside” members are elected, and other people can be co-opted. The Chairman is John Bearman, the Secretary is Sam Bates, and the Treasurer is Neil Goodman. The Management Committee are the trustees of the charity, and the Parish Council is the custodian trustee. The charity owns the Village Hall building, but the land it is on is leased (at a peppercorn rent).  The lease can be reviewed annually in July. The charity, however, owns the land at Greendene, on which is  Kingdom Hall (a complicated story!).This land is leased to the Jehovah’s Witnesses until 2024. Their rent is reviewed every five years, in line with the rate of inflation.

We continue to improve and renovate the Village Hall as much as possible within its limitations, and we are grateful for grants from the Parish Council and Horsham District Council for this, and the contribution from the Village Day funds. We have extended the Pre-School storage room, and re-arranged the main storage area, to give the Toddlers their own storage room. In addition, we have replaced  the exterior cladding of the Hall, much of which had seen better days. Recently, the heating system has been replaced and improved, and the car park area repaired and resurfaced with tarmac.

Regular Hall users are Pre-school, Toddlers, Gardeners Club, W.I., Karate, Thakeham Morris, Thakeham Rebels, Ministars, and the Parish Council. The Bridge Club meets every Friday afternoon, and also on Tuesday evenings. The Hall is available at appropriate times for private hire, though certain restrictions do apply. For more information, contact the Booking Secretary Barbara Laker on 01798 812266.

Present charges are:

Village HallMonday morning to Friday afternoon         £15/session
Saturday, Sunday morning or afternoon     £25/session
Friday and Saturday evening                     £35/session

Charges are reviewed each year at the Annual General Meeting of the Charity in May. The Committee pays for 4 hours cleaning per week, normally on a Monday afternoon.
